Charmaine brings over two decades of experience in healthcare and emergency services from the government and private sector, including clinical governance, quality, and emergency management expertise.
Charmaine held various nursing and health management roles at hospital, district, and international levels. Including 9 months in West Africa during the 2014/2015 Ebola Epidemic commissioning an Ebola Treatment Unit in Liberia and as Lead Clinical Trainer at Kerrytown Ebola Treatment Unit in Sierra Leone.
In 2020, supported the Commonwealth to rapidly establish 14 COVID-19 GP Respiratory Clinics across Western Australia to enhance testing capability. This model provided GPs a safe environment to clinically assess people with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms as the vaccine was developed.
Later she took on the role of Clinical First Responder deploying to COVID-19 impacted aged care facilities to conduct rapid outbreak assessments and provide support and oversight to deployment outbreak response teams.
Charmaine is passionate about developing and testing emergency and outbreak management plans and building the capabilities of others in this field.
Charmaine is WA Chapter Co-Lead for the Australasian Women in Emergencies (AWE) Network and a credentialed infection control practitioner with the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC). Charmaine continues to work as a Registered Nurse and remains on standby for international operations.
