Dr Jane Younger is a Senior Lecturer in Southern Ocean Vertebrate Ecology at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania. Her research focuses on disease ecology of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic wildlife, with a particular focus on infectious disease transmission in seabirds and seals. Combining field ecology, molecular methods and genomic sequencing, she studies the emergence and spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) across the Southern Ocean. Her work aims to improve understanding of wildlife pathogen transmission and develop internationally coordinated disease surveillance approaches that support wildlife conservation, ocean monitoring and One Health research.
