Dr. Ruth Barratt

Ruth is passionate about all aspects of infection prevention and control and has more than 25 years’ experience in this field across the private and public sectors in New Zealand and Australia. In recent years Ruth has been involved in various research projects, in particular using video-reflexive methods to optimise the use of personal protective equipment. She has represented IPC professionals on a number of Australasian committees and working parties, and is a member of the New Zealand IPC Sub-group of TAG COVID-19. Ruth is currently working as an IPC specialist with the New Zealand Health Quality and Safety Commission and as a private consultant for IPC through Vector Consulting.

Ruth is a registered nurse, quality advisor and is credentialed at expert level in infection prevention and control through the Australasian College for Infection Control Professionals. She holds a Master of Advanced Practice Infection Control and Prevention (Honours), Griffith University, and a PhD through the University of Sydney.
