Kay Bruce
Consumer Representative, Advocate, Central Adelaide Local Health Network

I commenced my role as a Consumer Representative and Advocate within the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) in 2020 and currently serve on the following committees and working groups:

ICU Clinical Governance Committee; CALHN Executive Quality Governance Committee; Preventing and Controlling HAI (Standard) Priority Care Committee; Adverse Incident Review Team; Partnering with Consumers in Education Framework Working Group; Critical Care and Perioperative Consumer Partnering; Implementation Plan Working Group; ICU Survive and Thrive Support Group Co-facilitator; ICU patient advocate.

I also serve on the steering committee for the MyLifeAfterICU website, which is maintained by the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS). My journey to this point started with my father’s hospitalisation, for routine heart surgery, that did not go as expected.  I have no background in medicine, but have learnt a lot since stepping into this space.
