In early 2020, the UK was faced with the uncomfortable decision to create field hospitals in convention centres due to the distinct possibility that the NHS would be overwhelmed. This paper will review the impact that the pandemic had on the UK and will reflect on lessons learned, including emergency planning, PPE provision, Vaccination roll-out, IPC learning, guideline preparation and roll-out, IPC in a rapidly-changing scenario and the need for flexibility and pragmatism.
