Problem Statement
Staff not following correct Donning and Doffing procedure.
Aim
To ensure staff are following correct Donning and Doffing procedures to prevent and minimize the spread of infections.
Method or Action
Nurse educator provided training to all RN’s. Train the Trainer model applied.
Spot Checks attended by Nurse Educator and RN’s on all shifts.
Information provided to staff in small chunks as more likely to retain.
Demonstration provided as they required to attend to task. Staff had the opportunity to apply the in practice.
Results
Staff felt supported, confident, elevated.
Resulted in reinforcement of skill.
Staff more likely to retain information.
Risk of cross infection minimized.
Staff more likely to adhere to correct procedure.
Conclusion
Increased retention of knowledge and skills when on the job training provided.
As information provided in small chunks when required it is more likely to be retained.
Risk of transmission of infections is lowered.
Staff feel supported. Increased confidence in staff.
Improved delivery of resident safe and quality care.
