Just like cleaning out the humble refrigerator, environmental cleaning isn’t always seen as the sexiest or most exciting job in the world. However, if we don’t do it regularly and with the right product and technique, there are going to be potential consequences (and we’re not just talking about the “mystery fruit” growing in the crisper).
Environmental cleaning is an integral component of infection prevention & control and is vital in preventing the transmission & growth of harmful microorganisms and preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAI’s) in all healthcare settings.
Despite advances in technology, cleaning by hand remains an essential component in “breaking the chain of infection.” To do this effectively, it is important that we are aware of the products we are using and the importance of adhering to best practice techniques to keep our patients/residents, clients, staff and visitors safe.
This presentation aims to empower individuals with the knowledge to educate others on the seemingly simple role detergents and disinfectants play in environmental cleaning and infection prevention, whilst also ensuring they can apply key cleaning techniques to their everyday practice.
