Surgical Aseptic Technique – Improving Outcomes for Patients and Staff
Yvonne Fletcher, Hands-On Infection Control Advisor
Aseptic Technique is a set of practices that protect patients from acquiring healthcare associated infections and protects healthcare workers from contact with blood, body fluids and body tissue.
This presentation aims to explain aseptic technique, define surgical aseptic technique and the practices involved when using surgical aseptic technique, and relate how application of effective surgical aseptic technique improves outcomes for both patients and staff.
The types of procedures performed in office based practice that require the use of surgical aseptic technique will be identified, and some of the common issues encountered when applying surgical aseptic technique in the office based setting will be discussed, along with suggestions on how to address the identified issues.
