Workshop Summary

Individuals living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) are more likely to experience an infection in comparison to the general older population. Subsequently, they also have high rates of antimicrobial use and have multiple risk factors that may lead to the development of antimicrobial resistance. Therefore, the development and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs in RACFs is imperative to improve the quality and safety of antimicrobial use and therefore minimise the risk of antimicrobial resistance in this population.

To effectively support antimicrobial stewardship in RACFs, various stakeholders such as; aged care providers, infection prevention and control specialists, consumers, doctors, nurses and pharmacists all have important roles to play.

This workshop includes an interactive activity and Q+A session for you to ask all your burning questions on antimicrobial stewardship in RACFs.
