Michael Borg

Professor Michael A. Borg heads the Department of Infection Prevention & Control at Mater Dei Hospital in Malta and chairs the country’s National AMR Committee. An Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, he has been included in Stanford University’s list of the top 2% scientists in the world. He also has extensive international experience including past chair of the International Federation of Infection Control (IFIC) and external expert to the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC).

Michael has authored or collaborated in more than 150 publications within peer reviewed journals, especially on the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, control of healthcare associated infections and antibiotic use. His current research interests focus on the application of behaviour and implementation sciences to improve IPC and antibiotic stewardship.
