Abstract:
The increasing problem of antimicrobial resistance is emerging and recognized as a worldwide thread. Micro-organisms are not developing defense mechanisms against multiple antibiotics but resistance against disinfectants, and antimycotics are an upcoming problem as well.
Professional cleaning can mitigate this issue by preventing cross-contamination in healthcare settings, reducing the incidence of illness and the subsequent need for medicines and disinfectants. Proper training for cleaning and medical staff on the appropriate use of disinfectants versus thorough cleaning is essential. Overuse and misuse of disinfection products should be avoided, and staff should understand the difference between cleaning and disinfecting.
In many healthcare settings using microfiber cloths and mops with only tap water for cleaning has been successfully implemented. This method, endorsed by infection prevention experts, avoids unnecessary use of detergents, offering significant advantages in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. This presentation will explain how professional cleaning can help fighting antimicrobial resistance.
