Abstract:
Background
The Aged Care IPC Lead has a range of tasks as determined by the ACQCS. Providing ongoing assessment of staff capability and education is one of the core functions of the role. Anecdotally, there is a potential gap between IPC knowledge and teaching/education capability. This presentation explores ways to ‘train the trainer’ by giving IPC Leads some training tools to sustainably embed and advance IPC in aged care.
Method or Actions
Despite some logistical challenges IPC Leads face, achievable education outcomes are possible with some simple teaching tools. Starting with understanding the gap in practice, the context in which you are teaching and learning styles of the team. This presentation focusses on visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learning styles and provide some teaching tools to use for different audiences.
Results
Building training capability in the IPC Leads will support ongoing IPC best practice. Building training capability in the IPC Leads will support and enhance ongoing IPC best practice, resulting in a safer environment for all. Provision of effective staff IPC education meets with regulatory compliance of the role.
Conclusion
IPC Leads have extensive responsibilities to supporting IPC programs at their individual sites. With the right teaching skills, they will be better equipped to achieve sustainable IPC programs.
