Abstract:

The new reprocessing standard AS5369 includes requirements for building design and workflow at health facilities, some of which have been ongoing challenges since the previous standard was introduced ten years ago. The revised standard aims to clarify some these requirements, but frequently asked questions still remain.

As the new standard now concerns office-based facilities and non-health related facilities in addition to hospitals, many of these requirements are now being considered by a new audience.

The presentation highlights notable facility requirements in AS5369 that may drive renovations for compliance purposes, or guide the design phase of new building works.

Topics include;

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • “Point of use” reprocessing in clinical areas
  • Spaces required for offsite reprocessing
  • Transport of RMDs
  • Sinks and hand hygiene
