Prevention is better than Cure – Sustainable Thinking in Healthcare

Biography:

The presenter has most recently been leading sustainability projects as a Sustainability Program Manager with the Tasmanian Health Service. Originally from rural New Zealand, they bring a diverse background spanning both the health and environmental sectors.

Abstract:

In 2023, The Lancet described climate change is the greatest global health threat of the 21st century. This session will challenge clinicians to think critically about the environmental impact of healthcare and explore how Infection Prevention and Control teams can play a pivotal role in addressing the climate emergency. Georgie will unpack what sustainability means in a clinical context, share practical strategies for driving meaningful change, and reveal how to spot and avoid greenwashing. They will also highlight the most effective actions you can take to support societal and climate stability – both as a healthcare professional and in your personal life.
