Abstract:

Infection prevention and control is more than a collection of policies and activities. It is an organisations system that protects older people from infectious disease risks and supports safe, quality care.

This presentation explores the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissions’ perspective on assessing IPC systems under the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. It examines how auditors assess compliance and effectiveness, the requirements of Standard 4 (Environmental IPC), Standard 5 (Clinical IPC), and governance responsibilities under Standard 2. The session highlights how providers can strengthen assurance, preparedness, and resilience when responding to outbreaks and other unexpected infection risks.
