This presentation explores the significant burden of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), particularly in infants and young children, and highlights the recent significant developments in immunisation. The talk outlines the epidemiology of RSV in the Australian context and presents the recent rapid international scientific developments that have led to the current comprehensive immunisation program transforming infant protection in Australia. An overview of the comprehensive RSV protection program in 2025, combining maternal vaccination (NIP-funded) and infant immunisation (state-funded), is provided, along with local insights into implementation in Tasmania.
