Anthony McGillion

Tony McGillion is the Divisional Director of Education & Training at Northern Health, Melbourne, Victoria and also holds Adjunct Associate Professor positions at the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University.

In his ‘day job’, Tony leads a large nursing, midwifery, medical, allied health and digital learning team. Prior to this, he was Director of Nursing and Midwifery (Inspiring Innovation) at Western Health. Going back a little further, Tony was Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing Practice at La Trobe University, where he was Director of Partnerships and looked after their Singapore partners and taught both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects.

Tony was also lucky enough to lead the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce team at the Department of Health and Human Services where he was also a Senior Policy Advisor for Nursing and Midwifery education. He has also led Nursing Education teams at Austin and Cabrini Health as well as coordinating the Graduate Program at Epworth.

Tony is a regular protagonist in the leadership ‘space’ despite never having had a position with the word ‘leader’ in it! He enjoys leading discussions about this abstract concept and bringing it to life through the use of narrative and role-modelling.
