Georgie Opie

Georgie Opie (they/them) is a Sustainability Program Manager with the Tasmanian Health Service. Originally from rural New Zealand, Georgie has a diverse background spanning both the health and environmental sectors, including nursing with Te Whatu Ora/Health New Zealand and as a ranger with Te Papa Atawhai/Department of Conservation. After realising they could combine their two areas of interest, they have taken up the challenge to educate folk that sustainability action is much broader than recycling. With a ten-year, four-country career in nursing, primarily in the post-anaesthetic care unit, they bring practical clinical insight to system-level sustainability reform. Georgie currently leads work to reduce emissions and embed environmental responsibility into hospital operations through infrastructure, procurement, governance, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
