The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) is currently working closely with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and the Department of Health and Aged Care to develop the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards (Quality Standards). As part of this work, the ACSQHC has developed a standard on Clinical Care that aims to ensure older people accessing aged care services receive safe and quality clinical care. To support the implementation of the strengthened Quality Standards including Clinical Care, the ACSQHC is developing a suite of infection prevention and control (IPC) resources for the aged care workforce and providers. These resources are based around the IPC related actions of the strengthened Quality Standards. The work in progress includes:
- Redeveloping the National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) eLearning modules for the aged care workforce
- Development of a 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene poster and fact sheet specific for aged care
- Development of an IPC guide for the aged care sector based on the Australian Guidelines for the
Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare (AICG).
This presentation will provide further information on ACSQHCs role in the Clinical Care Quality Standard and provide an update on the development of aged care related IPC resources.
