Jessica Dangles, MBA, MS1

Abstract:

Certification has become increasingly essential in today’s healthcare landscape. Currently, there are over 10,000 infection prevention and control (IPC) professionals from 47 countries certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).

The importance of certification lies in its ability to validate the competency and expertise of IPC professionals. The impact of certification is far-reaching. For individuals, it enhances professional development, career advancement, and recognition as subject-matter experts. For employers, it signifies that their staff is highly skilled in preventing infections, contributing to improved patient outcomes and organizational credibility. For the public, certification fosters trust in healthcare systems and reduces the risk of infections.

This session will provide an overview of the development of IPC certifications, options for prospective candidates, the value of certification, and future initiatives by CBIC, including the Advanced Leadership Certification in Infection Prevention and Control. Collaboration opportunities will be presented along with global considerations and challenges in expanding certification worldwide.
