His leadership extends to national capacity building programs, including a program for healthcare workers on IPC for pandemic preparedness; international facilitator on Human Resource Management for Jordan. Currently, he leads national capacity building programs on disaster resilient hospitals and oxygen management.
Abstract:
Issue
There was a felt need to develop a standardized guidance cum training document for Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) for pandemic preparedness moderated to the needs of the country.
Solution
National Initiative was conducted from the year 2022 to 2023 under the guidance of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India with for developing the standardized guidance cum training document and carrying out capacity building under cascading training approach. A guidance document was developed by reviewing the literature from PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane, subsequently moderated by a National Advisory Group for incorporating the IPC learnings and experience gained from the COVID 19 pandemic.
Results
The drafted standardized training and guidance document deep delves into various aspects of IPC for pandemic preparedness i.e. Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections including Standard Precautions; Hand Hygiene; Respiratory etiquettes; Personal Protective Equipment; Transmission based precautions; Biomedical Waste Management; Handling of the deceased; Management of Disease Outbreaks etc. A training help book, and job aids was also created as training tools and techniques. Two training of trainer’s programme (one day didactic and half day hands on skill-based training) were conducted for the doctors, nurses, lab technicians, administrators, researchers etc. from 31 Institutions from 15 states & union territories of the country.
Conclusion
The training served as platforms for interactive learning, knowledge exchange, and skill enhancement in the fight against infectious diseases. These concerted efforts will strengthen the nation's readiness and response capabilities in the face of future pandemics.
