The 2 year timeframe recommended by Committee HE-023 responsible for AS/NZS4187 sent shockwaves through Health Services Organisations [HSOs] as they grappled with the ramifications of the content of this new and very different Standard for reprocessing of reusable medical devices.
A further extension of the timeframe for completion of implementation of AS/NZS4187:2014 to 2021 provided by the Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care has provided some respite, however HSOs still face significant challenges in ensuring that the requirements of this Standard can be effectively met.
This presentation outlines the key aspects of AS/NZS4187:2014 that a HSO needs to be aware of when developing an Action Plan for implementation of this Standard and the challenges that may be experienced when working towards compliance.
